Plans For SquiggleBot You may be asking yourself, even if this dream does get off the ground, what is in the plan? Below are some of the ideas we are throwing around. They are just ideas at this point. Search Feed Our primary service will be to sell search results in addition to offering our own searches. Fisrt we will offer smaller sites a free search service that will include some of our own ads to support the service and generate some income for the site displaying results. Essentially publishers will be allowed to add the search to their site and earn an income from the displayed ads. The money seems to be in advertising and not in the actual search. It is all about traffic and anyone that has it, will be welcomed to the SquiggleBot Family. Thumbnail Service It seems that we are finding more and more thumbnail companies offering thumbnails of websites. The latest we found is Girafa, being used by aol for advertising services. So maybe there will be a market for our thumbnail database. Girafa allows you to use up to 2000 thumbs a day free, but that is only a couple hundred pages of 10 results. For larger sites with 200,000 thumbs per day (still only 20,000 searches) the cost is $800/month. Based on their pricing plan, they seem to be offering the service to very small sites as a gimmick. The cost to a google would be insane. We could certainly offer free thumbs to small websites or as part of our serch feed to other websites. Free Site Searches Considering the current database architecture, future plans include allowing site searches for small websites and paid adverising on search result pages. We will allow anyone to place a simple html form on their website and notify our system that it is in place. The bot will verify that the site is using our search and index up to 5000 pages of that website. The site owner will get to use a powerful search tool for their website, free. And we will get users to our search engine. Google uses this formula, but you can only search pages they have indexed. So the small sites may only get 2 or 3 pages in the results despite the hundreds of pages they have constructed. Our system would be free and specifically index their site each month. The bot will update more often if the website has a large number of users and content is dynamic, or we will allow the site owner to pay for more frequent updates. For example, if the site changes daily, the cost of recrawling 5000 pages every day would have to be paid for by someone. But for the average site owner, with only a few hundred pages, the normal free service will be great. Paid Inclusion Services Since we are small and can not index every website as quickly as people would like, we can offer an express service that would index a website within 24 hours. Of course we expect most people to wait untill they are indexed, some eager beavers will not have the patience and want it now. This would also bypass the 20 pages per day limit we have on our bot. The fee would cover bandwidth for crawling the website and the time it takes to redirect our bot from its normal crawl. Most of the big searches had this option at one time to help them grow but still allow people fast access to indexing. Now its more of a pain for them and they just avoid it. Of couse, the site owners could use the free site search and get the site indexed free. However, they would have to continue using the search. If the search is removed, the sites pages will be removed from the search index and they will be back on the normal schedule for crawling. Pay Per Click Ads We already have a system in place, albeit not as extensive as google adwords, that displays categorized text ads. We will take that one step further and make it word specific. Currently our text ads system ( http://bumblebeeads.com ) is only for internal use. However it was designed to allow anyone to write ads and pay for click throughs as well as allowing publishers to place the ad code on their pages and earn income through revenue share. The basic system is in place and will eventually compliment the programing we are doing with squigglebot. [ Home ] [ Help ] [ More About The
