3/01/06 - GoogleMania! I am not sure if the google guys are caught up in the internet fever of days gone by, or they really have what it takes to wipe out everyone else. They have expaned into almost every market they can find. Recent expansion includes an Operating System to compete with MS Windows and offered in low end computers at Walmart. With the financial and business backing, they could really smash into MS stronghold on the O/S market.

Even more outlandish is the announcement that they will no be launching a payment system to compete with ebay's Paypal. That is a massive and reaching venture that has no relation to searches. Just the kind of reach that could make or break the search giant.

The implications of such a move open even more speculation into what they are up to. Since they do not currently have any way of applying the payment to a sales base, will they soon be opening a full ebay style auction system? Or launching a webstore business to compete with yahoo hosting? Will they attempt to take over the hosting market, or do they just want it all?

The result will either be that google runs the internet and computer industry almost exclusively or they crash and burn like the thousands of other companies that once ruled the net. Its well know in business that growth leads to colapse. Too big, too powerful and too much to manage eat the bottom line and result in scenarios similar to the failing General Motors Corporation.

Only time will tell. One thing for sure, they have done better than me. So I am in no position to point fingers. But I am not buying stock in google.

2/01/06 Google and MSN hit China - Google and MSN are under attack for operating in China and censoring search results. I agree with the protestors. With men and women dying for freedom daily, 2 giant companies turn their back on the base foundation of our country in the interest of their own wallet. Its dispicable, discusting and wrong.

Why do military men and women need to die to protect our beliefs and maintain security so these companies can operate and grow in safety and freedom, when the companies support a system that is the opposite of what we beleive. GREED! In my opinion, they are "pissing on America" and disrespecting the US Armed Forces and America's Heros.

As Americans, they have no respect for freedom and the free speach that has allowed them to grow. If they will turn their back on our nation for cash, how can we trust them?

When companies are surendering information to a goverment resulting in the arrest of citizens for having open discussions or expressing opinions, there is no defense on their behalf. It's just plain wrong.

8/29/05 Google Needs $4 Billion - Google is expected to offer more stock (14.8 million shares) for sale at its current value approaching $300/share. Admiting that they need cash to fend off competition from MSN and Yahoo. Google is considered one of the most over inflated stocks in the market. However with sales last year of $3.2 Billion and earnings of $399million, they are still strong despite a 3% decline in stock value at the news of the new offering.

You just can not argue with the money being generated by this dynamo. The market is strong and there is pleanty of room for a startup like the new squigglebot driven sites.

The "Google of China" goes on the market. With the biggest splash since the Google IPO, Baidu.com buyers go insane. Reminisent of the "Tickle Me Elmo" craze that had peole selling poor little elmo dolls for thosands of dollars on ebay. An intitial offering of $27.00 a share quickly rose to $120.00 on the first day of trading.

This feeding frenzy shows the appetite of investors for promising tech stocks. A company with an $8million dollar a year income sold at 42 times earnings with the verosity of the early tech boom. SquiggleBot knows that this market is just too sweet to pass up. There is pleanty of room for a small search index like SquiggleBot and the financial rewards of good software can far exceed investment.

Nutch is the super cool OPEN Source search technology. Offering a good solution for businesses currectly paying google for search servers or appliances. Nutch has been an open source program for about 2 years hosted on sourceforge. Nutch is now part of the Apache project. This involvemnet by apache could take Nutch to the next level.

With the majority of web servers running Apache, there is little doubt that this open source search could become common place on all web servers. The Apache group has managed probably the most sucessful and easily the most widely used software system on the internet. With Nutch in hand, google could be looking at severe financial impact.

Although Nutch is a long way from being a google, many businesses and Universities are already switching to the open source search engine. The financial savings are too hard to ignore and the value of having contol of software just plain kick the pants off closed source systems offered by Google & Microsoft.

SquiggleBot - Is it ready?

I am not going to kid you. Squigglebot is not even close to google. But the programing continues and new ideas pop up daily. As we twist and tweak the index and build more domain records it keeps getting closer to being useful.

The idea ok making SquigleBot opensource has been on the table. Getting input from hundreds of programers could really be the way to take on this monster. Or it could just end up being a pile of crap with a bunch of subroutines that work as well together as Apple and Microsoft.

But we will be sure to let you know if it goes either way, IPO or open source. That is a world apart but both are very attractive ideas.
